“Now, more than ever, it’s about being proud of who I am as a person; proud of who we are as a community; proud as a people. It is only by living our truth and living by example that our young people will know they too can – and must – live with pride,” shares HMI CEO, Thomas Krever. Hosted by Legendary comedienne, performer and host of Sandyland on SiriusXM Radio Sandra Bernhard and Fashion maven, host of Bevelations on SiriusXM Radio and Page Six TV co-host Bevy Smith, the 2017 “Pride Is” Emery awards honors Kevyn Aucoin, Oath, and New York City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito. The event featurese a live performance from critically-acclaimed, high-energy creators and producers of Mighty Real: A Fabulous Sylvester Musical, Anthony Wayne and Kendrell Bowman. The Emery Awards recognizes individuals and organizations who demonstrate outstanding leadership within the LGBTQ community and those who work to address some of the most critical issues affecting HMI youth, namely the prevention of HIV/AIDS, housing and homelessness support, education, and health & wellness. As someone who believed glamour is not self-conscious or a question of effort, but rather expressing one’s own truth, Kevyn Aucoin embodies the “Pride Is” message… Pride is expressing one’s identities and strengths, finding beauty in all people and all things. A self-made makeup artist turned industry icon, Aucoin inspired and revealed that inner beauty is timeless, and aided in helping people to realize that beauty comes from the soul. Members of his family will be accepting the award on his behalf, and it will be presented by the legendary songstress, Tori Amos. Donate here.
